Five

Five is folk horror set in an unspecified agrarian community towards the end of the nineteenth century. The story centers around the Collins’ family, Irish Catholic immigrants with high hopes for the future. When the patriarch, John Collins, refuses to comply with a stipulation in the sales contract for his new property, he inadvertently draws the ire of a nightmarish adversary bent on ensuring it receives its due. As the seasons pass, a series of bizarre events lead the Collins to suspect they aren’t the only inhabitants of their land. When a blizzard leaves them snowbound, they find themselves at the mercy of the monster that has been lurking on the sidelines of their lives and each member of the family is forced to decide how far they are willing to go to protect those they love.

Next Time Around

Next Time Around is the first-person narrative of a mother trying to cope with her daughter’s increasingly disturbing memories of a past life as a young Nazi under the Third Reich. Can evil, deeply ingrained, change the fabric of a soul forever?

About Johna Villalba

Johna Villalba has been a fan of strange/horror fiction since elementary school, when she
got hooked on the genre by reading books that were definitely not age appropriate. Prior to
becoming a full-time writer and student, she worked in the animal health industry in both general
and emergency practices. Her love of animals hasn’t changed, but these days her professional
pursuits are centered around the written word. She is a supporting member of the Horror Writer’s
Association and always on the lookout for the next good scare. Born and raised in California, she
currently resides in Orange County with her husband, her son, and a menagerie of furred and
feathered friends including three dogs, two cats, and six hens. She enjoys

reading, watching horror movies, long walks with the dogs, and occasional gardening in her free time. She has a body of work consisting of one completed novel, one novella, and six terrifying shorts of varying
lengths with which she hopes to cause her audience at least a few sleepless nights. Check out
samples of her work and poetry here
